Camden Council has started work on a much-needed flood warning system at the Anthony Road Causeway in Catherine Field.
The flood warning system, set to be completed within a week, includes state-of-the-art flood sensors that will activate flashing lights when water levels rise to a dangerous level.
In addition to alerting motorists to hazardous conditions, the sensors are also equipped to send real-time notifications to council staff, enabling prompt traffic control measures.
Work on safety measures at the dangerous causeway have been steadily progressing throughout the year.
In recent months, street lighting was installed by Endeavour Energy, significantly improving visibility at the causeway.
The new lighting has already proven effective during recent floods, ensuring the safety of motorists by clearly illuminating the flooded area.
These upgrades are part of a broader effort to improve flood safety in the region, following a vocal campaign from the Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty, and feedback from the local community.
Mr Hagarty, pictured above at the causeway, has welcomed the commencement of the critical works by Camden Council.
“This is a crucial step in improving road safety for Catherine Field residents,’’ he said.
“The new flood warning system and enhanced lighting will provide motorists with clear, early warnings and help prevent dangerous situations from developing during severe weather.’’
