Why Flagstaff offer emergency plan for people with disabilities

Not all disability service providers are created equal, apparently. Take Flagstaff Group for instance, who have recently expanded their services to the Macarthur region.

Their large warehouse space is located on Dunn Road, Smeaton Grange, and recently Flagstaff held a morning tea meet and greet with people around the Macarthur region.

“We’re not like everyone else,’’ chief executive officer Rodney Clark told the South West Voice.

For evidence, Mr Clark, pictured above, outlined how Flagstaff provide people with disabilities an emergency plan in case of disasters such as fire or flood.

“When we’re planning for these things, who thinks of people with disabilities,’’ he said.

In 2022, Flagstaff became the first disability led organisation to create tools for emergency planning and resilience.

It did this when it developed apps on emergency planning and the non verbal communicator.

But it offers so much more in a way Flagstaff says sets it apart from other disability providers.

There’s school to work pathways, via hands on skills baristas, for example.

As a registered NDIS provider, Flagstaff offers a number of community programs and operate a number of businesses with the purpose of providing employment for people with a disability and encouraging “a world that only sees abilities’’.

Flagstaff’s social enterprises include print, mail and digital services, fine foods – frozen meals, Coffee with a Vision, commercial laundry services, paper to paper – recycling collection services and secure shredding, glove laundering and packaging and assembly.

Their NDIS division, Life Choices, offer a number of person-centred life skills pathways and activities for people with a disability.

Flagstaff has been operating since 1966, mainly in the Illawarra region and south to Nowra.

But now they are here in the heart of Macarthur.
