The residents of the village of Buxton in the Wollondilly Shire has been devastated by the death of five young people in a single vehicle crash overnight.
Three girls, two aged 14 and a 15-year-old, and two boys, aged 15 and 16, all died at the scene when the Nissan Navarra vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a tree.
The tragedy occurred around 8pm last night at East Parade near Orange Road, Buxton.
The driver, an 18-year-old man, was the only survivor of the horrific crash.
He was arrested and taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing, where he remains receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. He has not been charged.
All of the victims attended Picton High School, some of them together since Year 7.
Counselling will be offered at the school from today and in the next little while, and also offered to students at local primary schools.
An investigation is under way into the circumstances surrounding the crash and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Officers from Camden Police Area Command have established a crime scene around the crash site, which has been examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
