There’s not one but two national teams taking part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup using South Western Sydney as their base.
Korea Republic are using Campbelltown during their two week stay, while Colombia have chosen Liverpool as their headquarters during the World Cup.
Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss welcomed the Korea Republic squad earlier this week following their arrival in Australia.
“It was an honour to welcome the Korea Republic women’s national team to Campbelltown this morning at a short meet and greet,’’ he said.
“The team will be here for the next two weeks at Campbelltown Stadium preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“It’s fantastic for our city to be hosting a team as part of one of the world’s biggest sporting events.’’
The Colombia group were welcomed to Liverpool at an official ceremony yesterday.
It included a welcome to country from local elders as well as official welcomes by the Member for Liverpool Charishma Kaliyanda.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will see the world’s best players compete for the greatest prize in women’s football,’’ Ms Kaliyanda said.
“Liverpool football fans will witness the highs, lows, thrills, and excitement of the tournament on home soil.
“It was fantastic to welcome the Colombia women’s football team to Liverpool.
“I wish them the best at the tournament and urge all Liverpool residents to adopt the side as their second team.”
