Express train services to return under Labor, says Greg Warren

Greg Warren says he has lost count of the number of Campbelltown commuters who have asked him about express train services.

A rapidly growing city like Campbelltown needs more services, not less, he said, alluding to the axing of the Campbelltown to Parramatta express service in 2018.

The decision to axe the services has caused chaos for Campbelltown commuters who have been forced to switch train services at Glenfield.

The Campbelltown MP says he has fought tirelessly for the services to be re-established.

However repeated requests to several NSW Liberal Transport Ministers for the re-establishment of the service since 2018 have been ignored.

With an election due on March 25, Mr Warren says that if Labor wins office a Minns Labor Government will conduct a review that will focus on delivering more express train services.

“I have heard the concerns of Campbelltown commuters, I have acted on those concerns, and this is the result,’’ he said.

Mr Warren’s Labor colleague, Jo Haylen, who is shadow minister for transport, says train services have gone backwards for too many communities across Sydney.

“Growing areas like Riverwood, Campbelltown and Leppington don’t have the right transport connections to the places where people are employed,’’ she said.

“Too many passengers are having to change too many times to get to and from work. This discourages passengers from using our train network at a time when we need to encourage people to come back.

“And since the pandemic travel work patterns have changed, there are opportunities to flatten the peak and deliver more frequent and efficient off peak services.

“That’s why Labor will review the train timetable to deliver better train connections so it’s easier for people to get to and from work, and get their kids to and from school every day.”

  1. Given that Parramatta is a major legal precinct, as well as the uni being not that far away, these services are necessary.

Apart from easing the burden on the environment, these services will make it financially easier for families by not having to fork out money at the bowser.

  2. We could get trains straight through to Parramatta, Strathfield, City via Granville and now we have to change all the time – it’s not fair – we need it changed back to make it a bit easier for people.

  3. the harsh reality is that putting more direct services not going into the city will reduce the number of trains into the city via airport, where the bulk of people travel to and from. Fix the connections between Strathfield and T9 line I’d say and make sure there’s never a wait more than 10min at Glenfield, and get rid of those 6min idle times there too
