With summer on the way, and predictions of potentially damaging bush fire emergencies, now is the time for everyone to start thinking about what action they may need to take.

In Campbelltown, as in other Macarthur local government areas, council are encouraging residents to consider their emergency preparedness as part of Emergency Ready Week, which will be held during September 18 and 24.

An Australian Red Cross initiative, Emergency Ready Week aims to connect residents directly with emergency services and encourage them to download the Get Prepared App, where they can build their own emergency ready plan.

As well, an Emergency Ready Day has been planned to be held at Koshigaya Park on Sunday, September 24, from 11am to 3pm, to help connect residents with emergency service providers and further resources.

“Emergency Ready Week is an opportunity for residents to consider their own safety strategies and tailor them to their own individual needs and context,” says Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss.

“Our Emergency Ready Day will strengthen these plans by giving residents a chance to directly reach out to emergency service workers for personalised advice,” Cr Greiss said.

Emergency Ready Day will include information stalls manned by emergency service representatives, including NSW Police, Fire & Rescue, SES, Rural Fire Service and Australian Red Cross.

But the day won’t just have a serious side, with some fun activities also on the menu.

Family activities have also been planned for the day with face-painting, a live kitchen fire demonstration from Fire and Rescue NSW, a Paw Patrol meet and greet, Wests Tigers’ Ball Toss and interactive emergency service vehicles.
