Memo to parents: get the kids into the Easter spirit from the comfort of your own home with Camden Council’s first ever virtual Easter hat parade.

Local children aged between five and 12 years are encouraged to get creative and make an Easter hat, for their chance to be named People’s Choice or Mayor’s Award winners and pick up one of two Mess It Up hampers, including a slime kit.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said it was important to enjoy family time during a unique Easter experience this year.

“I know celebrating Easter this year will be a little difficult for all of us as we are used to being around family and friends, but that doesn’t mean we cannot have fun with our own families,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Easter hat parades are a fantastic way to celebrate an important time of the year.

“Even though most Easter hat parades are held at school, with many children now being home schooled, this is a way for everyone to get involved from their own living rooms.

“This is a great way to keep the children occupied while at home and to also help celebrate Easter in a different way.

“I encourage all of Camden’s children to get creative and have some fun with their families in putting together some fantastic hats this year.”

To enter, parents will need to send an image of their child wearing the hat, along with their name, age and a bit about their creation, to Camden Council via Facebook inbox by noon this Thursday, April 9.

With parents’ permission, council will choose top 10 hats and upload these photos to Council’s Facebook page.

Each “like’’ will count as a vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Voting will close 11.59pm on on Monday, April 13.

Entrants must live in the Camden Local Government Area.

The winner of the People’s Choice and Mayor’s Choice Awards will be announced on council’s social media on Tuesday, April 14.
