The free dental check for public schools across NSW has celebrated its 1000th public school visit – at a Camden school.
Since the program began in 2019, the Primary School Mobile Dental Program has offered free dental care to more than 300,000 NSW public school students.
But for its 1000th visit, it went to Mount Annan Public School, and local MP Sally Quinnell was there to celebrate the milestone (pictured above)
“It’s amazing to think that Mount Annan Public School could be the 1000th visit in this important program, which has already visited 98 schools in the South West Sydney Health District, and will continue to serve more,’’ Ms Quinnell said afterwards.
“These mobile dental clinics are such an important and valuable resource for the Camden community
“By providing free, convenient and accessible dental care, mobile dental clinics free up time for busy working families in Camden, ensuring our kids are the healthiest they can be.”
From the 98 schools it visited over the past five years in the South Western Sydney Local Health District, the program provided 85,754 students with access to free dental care.
The mobile dental clinics visit participating primary schools across eleven local health districts and provide on-site dental check-ups, cleans, x-rays and other preventive treatments, as well as education on good oral hygiene practices.
This initiative not only addresses immediate dental needs but also equips children with the knowledge to maintain their oral health.
If a child needs follow-up dental care, public dental service staff will contact parents and carers to discuss options for treatment, which may include further treatment at the school or a local dental clinic.
In addition to the Primary School Mobile Dental Program, all children under 18 years of age can access free dental care provided by NSW Health at public dental clinics.
