A Wedderburn Christian campsite at Wedderburn will soon have a defibrillator on site after it successfully applied for funding under the NSW Government’s local sport defibrillator grant program.

“Our outdoor recreation campsite is host to weekly school camps, group retreats, church groups, and other events throughout the year,’’ said the application for funding.

“The program would fund a defibrillator to be located in our outback shed facility to be available for use by our trained first aid staff members.’’

Local MP Greg Warren – pictured above on the Wedderburn site – has congratulated the group for obtaining the grant for equipment that could potentially save someone’s life.

“These portable defibrillators detect and analyse a person’s heart activity and, if needed, deliver an electric shock through the chest to the heart,’’ Mr Warren said.

“With more people than ever participating in sport and active recreation in the Campbelltown electorate, it’s vital that our local facilities are equipped with these potentially life-saving devices.

“I congratulate the recipients and commend them for prioritising the safety and well-being of their participants,” said the local MP.

Almost 200 groups across NSW will share in $500,000 funding announced by Premier Chris Minns today on site of another local beneficiary, the Moorebank-Liverpool District Hockey Club.

Today’s announcement brings the number of devices awarded since the program commenced to more than 2,500.

Andy Paschalidis, the founder of Heartbeat of Football, a community drive to have these life saving devices installed in as many sporting venues as possible, also gave the thumbs up to today’s funding announcement.

“I applaud the NSW Government for the ongoing defibrillator rollout program which is saving lives,”he said.

“Last year, at least six footballers in Sydney alone were saved because of defibrillator access at their grounds and the rapid response by individuals trained in CPR.

“It’s wonderful to see 200 more sporting clubs will now be able to purchase and install these life saving devices.”
