Campbelltown City Council says that while it welcomes NSW Budget funding for better local bus services it will remain an active voice in advocating to secure the transport services and infrastructure that underpin a liveable, connected and growing region.
Funding for new and expanded bus routes was included in the 2025-26 budget, delivered in the state parliament today.
The investment follows sustained advocacy by council for the enhancement of public transport services to ensure residents can better access employment, healthcare and social opportunities.
The budget specifically funds bus services for Macarthur Heights residents to the nearest railway station at Macarthur.
“We’ve long called for improved public transport across our growing region, and we welcome the State Government’s commitment to improving local connectivity,’’ says Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Darcy Lound.
“This investment is a positive step towards providing our community with greater access to essential services and reducing our reliance on private vehicles,” he said.
The new bus services that will link Macarthur Heights to Sydney’s rail network are expected to improve travel options for residents and ease congestion in surrounding areas.
Council has also welcomed the introduction of bus services between Wilton and Campbelltown, which will support ongoing housing growth and boost connectivity throughout the wider Macarthur region.
“With the Macarthur region seeing rapid and continual population growth, it’s critical that investment in public transport and other key infrastructure keeps pace,’’ Mayor Lound said.
“I would like to acknowledge the ongoing advocacy of Member for Campbelltown, Greg Warren, whose support for improved transport outcomes continues to play a role in delivering results for our community”, Cr Lound said.
