One of the highlights of the formal opening yesterday of Dudley Chesham Sportsground following a major upgrade was the presence of representatives of the users of the facility.

The Oaks Tigers junior and senior rugby league clubs, The Oaks netball club, the Macarthur Astronomical Society, The Oaks Horse and Pony Club, The Oaks and Burragorang Cricket Club and The Oaks Vanderville Tennis Club were all there as the ribbon was cut in front of the shiny new grandstand.

The $5.2m project funded under the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Fund delivered new grandstand seating, meeting rooms, canteens, storerooms, a caller box, club room, and male and female accessible change rooms and bathrooms.

Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould, Campbelltown MP Greg Warren – representing the Premier – local MP Judy Hannan, and a host of councillors joined the users of the facility to celebrate the completion of work.

Deanna Windle, daughter of Dudley Chesham, was also among the special guests for the ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling.

“This project is a game changer for The Oaks, and I am so proud that it’s now completed and in use,’’ said Mayor Matt Gould.

“Dudley Chesham Sportsground is the main sporting precinct of The Oaks and surrounding rural areas, and somewhere our community can connect, play and keep fit.

“The area has a growing population, and the completion of the building will be welcomed by the residents of The Oaks and its surrounds. It’s a fantastic asset for Wollondilly,” he said.

Greg Warren said the facility represents what the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants are all about.

“It supports communities and sport both now and into the future. A facility such as this is what Wollondilly deserves and what The Oaks deserves. Congratulations to Wollondilly Council on delivering this remarkable asset,” Mr Warren said.
