New chief scientist perfect fit for Ingham Institute

The newly appointed Ingham Institute research director and chief scientist is an internationally recognised researcher whose work focuses on improving the safety, quality and experience of healthcare systems.

Which makes Professor Reema Harrison (pictured above) perfect for the job of leading the way to improve the general health levels of the residents of South Western Sydney.

Professor Harrison will commence in the role on May 11.

Throughout her career, Professor Harrison has led international collaborations, contributed to influential publications, and helped shape the global evidence base for safer, more effective healthcare.
She has built a strong reputation for leading multidisciplinary research programs that bring together clinicians, policymakers, patients and communities to redesign healthcare delivery.

Most recently she served as director of research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University, where she led a significant program of health equity research alongside major initiatives in patient safety, healthcare quality improvement, patient engagement, and the translation of evidence into clinical practice.

In this role, Professor Harrison led diverse teams of researchers, clinicians and health system partners, translating complex research findings into practical improvements in health service performance.

Her work has consistently involved co-design with patients and frontline clinicians to ensure research outcomes reflect the realities of care delivery.
