Michelle Stares will be the inaugural chief executive officer of The George Centre, the new paediatric and maternity private hospital currently under construction at Gregory Hills.

Located in the heart of South Western Sydney and within the new Camden Medical Precinct, upon completion The George Centre will be one of the largest private hospitals in Greater Sydney and the only private paediatric focussed facility in NSW.
Michelle Stares brings a depth of professional experience, most recently as chief executive officer of St John of God Bendigo Hospital in Victoria for the past two and a half years.
Prior to that she held general manager and director of nursing roles, including NSW Sydney Southwest and Nepean Private Hospitals.
Her extensive hospital experience working alongside specialist doctors and a multidisciplinary clinical team of nurses, theatre staff and support services equips her to build and lead the team of experts to operate The George Centre.
“I’m very excited to return home to South Western Sydney,” says Ms Stares.
“My goal is to build a great team of medical specialists at The George Centre and deliver the best healthcare to the community in which I grew up.”
The George Centre will be more than just a hospital. It is designed with a strong focus on patient well-being, choice and control such as type of birth, what postnatal care is received and even hospital food and mealtimes.
The facility will provide 78 beds (57 overnight inpatient beds) across dedicated paediatric, adolescent and maternity wards, five operating theatres, four delivery suites, two endoscopic suites, medical consulting suites, a critical care unit, and in and out-patient radiology and pathology services.
