Campbelltown Catholic Club has announced that it is planning to build a retirement complex containing about 90 homes right next to its own premises.

As part of the development, the Catholic Club says it will restore the heritage building, Emily Cottage.

Built between 1823 and 1827, Emily Cottage is a small stone building on the corner of Camden, Old Menangle and Art Gallery Roads.

The cottage has had many uses over the years, being used as a place of residence, an arts and crafts shop, a picture framing business and tea rooms.

As part of a media release, the club included the computer generated image of the proposed retirement village (above), but stressed that it was for illustrative purposes only and designs were at a very early stage.

The proposed development footprint stretches from Camden Road through to Quondong House, with the main entry and address on Old Menangle Road, next to the vehicle entry to the club itself.

A range of indoor and outdoor resident-only amenities are included in the proposal.

The complex will be called Siquilla Retirement Residences, with the name coming to life through the Catholic Club’s longstanding connection with sport, education, schools and church.

Michael Lavorato, managing director of the club, says he’s excited about the plans.

“We are very proud to be adding Siquilla Retirement Residences to our club community,’’ Mr Lavorato said.

“Campbelltown is a great place to live and with the planned amenities and beautifully landscaped gardens, our retirement community will be well-catered for.’’

The club recently ran an information session for the local community of future residents to share their plans and ideas for the new development.

The information session was being offered to eligible potential residents aged 60 and over, providing an opportunity to learn more and hear ideas and insights around design and services, features, amenities and priorities.
