During the construction of a 1,000 space multi storey commuter car park at Leppington rail station some of the current spaces will become unavailable.
To deal with the shortage of spaces, a temporary car park will be created, offering around 250 spaces opposite the station on Rickard Road.
Work is expected soon on the temporary facility, which will be delivered by Camden Council on behalf of Transport for NSW.
“The temporary car park is another step forward in the process to deliver up to 1,000 additional permanent parking spaces for customers at Leppington Station as part of the NSW Government’s commuter car park program,” says Peter Sidgreaves, the Liberal MP for Camden.
“It will offset the car parking spaces that will be unavailable during construction of the new multi-storey car park.”
The temporary car park is scheduled to open around September and parking will be free for public transport customers.
The majority of the existing commuter car park to the south of the station will remain open to customers during construction.
“Delivering infrastructure like the Leppington commuter car park is complex,’’ says Mr Sidgreaves.
“It requires the State Government, local councils, land owners and our local community to work together to achieve the best outcomes for the community.’’
Work on the new multi-storey car park is due to commence in the coming weeks and is expected to be completed around the middle of next year.
When complete and open to the public it will feature 1,000 parking spaces, free parking for up to 18 hours, accessible parking spaces in the station precinct, lift access, road pavement and pedestrian pathway upgrades and CCTV, lighting and wayfinding for improved safety and security.
Mr Sidgreaves said the provision for electric vehicle charging spaces and motorbike parking was also being assessed.
