The successful campaign to get traffic lights installed at Bardia Public was a team effort, says the local MP, Anoulack Chanthivong.

The lights, at the intersection of Arthur Allen Drive and MacDonald Road, were fully operational for the first time this week after a long and hard-fought community campaign.

“This fantastic outcome marks the culmination of consistent hard work, advocacy and determination by all of those involved in this community campaign,’’ Mr Chanthivong said.

“I would like to thank the Bardia Public School community, particularly the Bardia Public School P&C, for their ongoing efforts to improve safety around the school.

“Growing communities such as Bardia deserve their fair share.’’

Community concerns regarding road and pedestrian safety around Bardia Public School have been ongoing since the redeveloped school opened in 2019.

In a few short years, the school’s population more than tripled from around 300 students to more than 1000 students.

“Within minutes of the traffic lights turning on, families and students were excited to cross at the lights,’’ said the member for Macquarie Fields, pictured above (right) crossing the lights with parents and children last week.

“This important development signals a green light for safety and a win for the Bardia community.

“Families are overjoyed to know their children can finally cross safely at the lights, and everyone has access to this long-awaited piece of infrastructure that they rightly deserve.

“I’m proud to have campaigned with the Bardia Public School P&C and wider school community to deliver the traffic lights and make community safety a priority,” Mr Chanthivong said.
