Over the past two weeks, Camden Council has delivered more than 1,500 puddings to volunteers of more than 50 organisations that give up their time to help make the town a better place throughout the year.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, pictured above with some of the sweet treats, said the volunteers deserved a special thank you this year.

“As we all know, 2020 has been a crazy year and no group in society was exempt from feeling the shocks of Covid-19, our volunteers included,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Our volunteers were fantastic throughout the year, waiting patiently until those opportunities were back up and running.

“Even our thank you is a little different this year. Our volunteers are usually thanked at the annual Mayor’s Volunteer Thank You Reception. With Covid-19 restrictions still in place, we thought we’d thank them in this different, but just as sweet, way for this year.

“The contribution made to the Camden area by these volunteers is absolutely invaluable and we simply can’t thank them enough.”

In other Camden news, council’s heritage advisory committee is running a social media campaign over the festive season, asking residents to uncover untold stories behind the area’s history.

Information gathered will help to map Camden’s oral history as part of a knowledge sharing and story telling program that will be used to describe the people, places and events that have shaped the identity of the area.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said it was time for residents to put their thinking caps on.

“Camden is well known for its heritage and historic value and I know there are residents with many stories that are just waiting to be heard by the wider community,” Cr Fedeli said.

“The social media campaign will allow us to not only uncover untold stories, but importantly also educate our new residents about the unique heritage in our very own backyard.

“We are after photographs, audio or video clips and even written stories. During this festive season I urge all of our community to have a chat with their loved ones and maybe write down or even record the stories of Camden.”

The stories can be short, authentic and even quirky to tell the story of your memories and experiences across the Camden area.
