As a versatile space, Camden Civic Centre has done it all, from hosting council meetings to entertainment shows and art exhibitions.

But now it’s set to get even better under a new plan.

Located in Oxley Street, the Camden Civic Centre is on its way to getting a makeover which will create extra spaces for activities and improve its functionality.

Camden Council’s development application for the upgrade of the facility is on public exhibition until Monday, July 10.

As well as improvements to the inside and outside of the building, the upgrade will also lead to greater connection from John Street to the centre.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said the upgrade would help attract more visitors to the Camden area by expanding on the range of activities and shows at the facility.

“Since 2017, we’ve undertaken a number of consultations through workshops, surveys and activations which have informed the plan that is currently on exhibition,” she said.

“Camden Civic Centre is an incredibly important piece of infrastructure for the arts in our area.

“This upgrade will reinforce the Civic Centre’s position within the cultural heart of the Camden Town Centre.’’

The project will be jointly funded by Council’s Covid-19 Community Support Package and the NSW State Government WestInvest Program.
