Commuters who use buses in the South Western Sydney will benefit from a brand new route which will provide better links to growing areas like Carnes Hills, Austral, Leppington and Denham Court.

The new Route 861 will run between Carnes Hill and Denham Court via Austral and Leppington, and result in more than 300 weekly services being added to the bus network in South Western Sydney.

The new Route 861 will be introduced this Sunday, May 30, and services will operate every 30 minutes during peak periods and every 60 minutes at all other times.

“We know there are many growing communities in this area who need improved public transport links and this new bus route is an important step forward in ensuring the needs of our customers continue to be met,” says the local MP, state member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves.

“This new service is much needed and will encourage more customers to catch public transport with better and more frequent connections to popular local destinations such as shops and schools, as well as provide a new link to T2 and T5 train services at Leppington train station.”

Since January this year, local bus customers have also been enjoying quieter and cleaner journeys, after the NSW Government and Interline buses launched the first electric bus in Sydney’s South West operating on routes 859 (Carnes Hill – Edmondson Park) and 858 (Oran Park Town Centre – Leppington).

These improvements deliver on commitments made as part of the NSW Government’s growth services program to build a better bus network for customers.

Since 2011, more than 45,000 additional weekly bus services have been delivered, with 3,300 of these in South Western Sydney.
