Bus shelters will be installed on The Northern Road between Camden and the new airport.

More than $2.4 million in state government grants will go towards greener neighbourhoods, improved public transport and weed management across Camden.

The biggest grant will go towards the planting of more than 3000 trees to increase the area’s canopy cover.

Council has set a target to increase tree canopy cover across the Camden local government area to 40 per cent by 2036.

A grant for $360,000 will be used to install bus shelters along selected routes as part of the new bus services for Western Sydney network.

These services will connect Campbelltown, Narellan, Oran Park and Leppington with the Western Sydney International Airport and the emerging Bradfield City Centre ahead of the airport’s opening later this year.

The smallest state government grant for $179,000 was provided under the state weeds action program.

Funding, which will be delivered over four years, will enable council to reduce the risk and impact of priority weeds across the Camden local government area.

As the local control authority, council has a responsibility to prevent, eliminate, minimise and manage biosecurity risks posed by weeds, helping protect the community, agriculture and the environment.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, welcomed the funding for such important local projects.

“It’s terrific to secure this funding to support important work across the Camden area,” she said.

“Real progress happens when all levels of government work together, and this funding is a great example of that collaboration delivering real benefits for our community.’’
