The Ulises Davila contract extension announcement today is just what the doctor ordered for Macarthur FC as they try to stay in the hunt for a finals appearance.

Easter Monday’s 3-1 loss to the Wanderers pushed Macarthur down the ladder, from third to fifth, and put them in real danger of missing out on a top six spot.

So this positive announcement could not have come at a better time for the club, especially with a tough road trip to face Western United in Victoria tomorrow.

Davila – who has saved the Bulls’ bacon on several occasions this season – will now remain at Campbelltown until the end of the 2025/26 A-League season.

Since joining the Bulls, the Mexican wizard has featured in 68 matches across all competitions. More importantly, he has been a vital cog in the side, with his impact extending beyond his captaincy.

Davila has scored 25 goals and recorded 10 assists during his tenure with the Bulls. He is already the club’s all-time leading goal scorer across all competitions.

“I’m very happy, to be honest. I feel this club, this place is like my home. I’m happy to stay here and spend more time with this club and play with them,’’ Davila said after putting pen to paper on his extension deal.

“It was just so easy to say yes to stay here longer, trying to achieve big things with the club, and really help all the young players that are coming.”

Head coach Mile Sterjovski echoed the sentiment, emphasising the significance of Davila’s presence for another two years.

“I think we are all very happy to have Uli re-sign. I think we all know what it means to the club.

“We are pleased to have him and we’re looking forward to having more success together with him.”

Following tomorrow’s match, the Bulls will head to South Australia a week later to face Adelaide United, before returning home to host Sydney FC on April 20.

A week after that the Bulls will be on another difficult assignment to finish the home and away season: an away clash with competition leaders Wellington Phoenix.

Tomorrow’s match with Western United will kick off at 3.30pm.
