Macarthur has two teams competing in the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW premiership, Rams and the Bulls Academy.

Rams won the title last yar and started this season well, but have been off the pace in recent weeks.

While their fortunes have declined, the Macarthur FC Bulls Academy girls have suddenly found some good form in the past three to four weeks.

And following an emphatic 7-0 win over the Blacktown Spartans on the weekend, Bulls now look like serious finals contenders.

Rams on the other hand lost 1-0 at home to Illawarra Stingrays and have dropped down to sixth on the ladder.

The Bulls have the same number of points as the Rams but are in eighth spot on goal difference.

A mid-week loss to Sydney Olympic pushed the Rams out of the top four, meaning yesterday’s round 14 clash at Lynwood Park was a must win game.

Illawarra scored on the stroke of halftime and hung on in the second half for a 1-0 win and three vital premiership points.

Bulls FC Academy, fresh from a mid-week draw with Sydney University, took quick control of their game against Blacktown Spartans on Sunday night.

It took them just seven minutes to go 1-0 up, courtesy if a tap in by Briana Woodall.

Woodall then backed up her opener with a poacher’s finish after following up from a cross that was initially touched on to the crossbar by Spartans goalkeeper Anna Norton.

Bulls headed into halftime 3-0 up after a third goal six minutes from the break.

The goals continued to flow for them in the second half, with Elizabeth Grey adding a fourth for her side in the 51st minute via a strong header from a corner.

Amber Luchtmeijer picked up a double, scoring in the 65th and 75th minute respectively, the first just crossing the line after an initial save by Norton and the second a well-taken volley after a shot deflected into her path.

The final goal of the day would be earned from a penalty scored by Tamires Souza, who showed total composure in burying her finish into the bottom right corner to secure a double for herself and a 7-0 win for the Bulls Academy.
