Homicide Squad detectives have charged two teenage boys -aged 14 and 16 – with murder after an investigation into the fatal shooting of a man at Glen Alpine earlier this month.
About 3.40am on Tuesday, September 1, emergency services were called to a home on Mount Sugarloaf Drive in Glen Alpine, following reports of a home invasion.
On arrival, officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command located a man suffering a gunshot wound inside the house.
The man, aged 23, died at the scene. Detectives have since confirmed the wrong house was targeted.
Officers were told the unknown offenders left the home a short time before police arrival.
Local police established crime scene and commenced inquiries before the investigation was taken over by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Gareno.
Following extensive inquiries, about 10am on Wednesday (September 16) strike force detectives executed two search warrants at homes in Fairfield.
During the searches, two boys aged 14 and 16 were arrested and taken to Cabramatta Police Station.
Both boys were charged with murder, participate in a criminal group and contribute to criminal activity, possess a prohibited firearm and two counts of driving a stolen vehicle.
The 14-year-old boy was also charged with damaging property by fire.
Detectives will allege in court the teens staged vehicles and provided a weapon for the gunman.
They were both refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Thursday).
Investigations under Strike Force Gareno are continuing.
