Bill Anderson Park at Kemps Creek is a focal point for community sports in the region, hosting many local and regional football events.

The installation of a new drainage system enhances the ground’s capacity and durability, accommodating the growing demand for football in the area.

The park’s upgrade emphasise its role in fostering grassroots sporting development in Western Sydney.

Nathan Hagarty, Member for Leppington, says the official opening of the new drainage facilities at Bill Anderson Park marks another election commitment fulfilled.

He says the $50,000 state of the art drainage upgrade coincided with a $25,000 playing field upgrade, delivering on the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to improving grassroots sporting infrastructure across Western Sydney.

Mr Hagarty points out that before the completion of this upgrade, 67 percent of the playing fields in Leppington lacked adequate drainage, which left community sporting clubs hanging throughout the unprecedented wet weather, and subsequent flooding, of 2022.

“This significant upgrade highlights our commitment to improving community sports infrastructure as well as fulfilling our election promises,’’ Mr Hagarty said.

“Reliable, high quality facilities is what has been lacking in our region, and with this upgrade we have taken steps to remedy that.”

Kemps Creek United Soccer Club president Ross Maiorana said the provision of new and enhanced sporting infrastructure was vital in ensuring players get the most out of their football experience and keep them involved in sport.

“Having government grant funding opportunities such as the Essential Community Sport Asset Program and Local Small Commitments Allocation are key to helping clubs like Kemps Creek United deliver high quality facilities for the use and enjoyment of its members,’’ he said.

“We are grateful for the NSW Government’s support in funding this field upgrade project.”

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said upgrades like this one were laying the groundwork for a more resilient sporting future in Western Sydney.

“Investment in sports infrastructure, like the $75,000 one at Bill Anderson Park, is crucial for cultivating talent, encouraging community participation, and building a legacy of sports excellence in Western Sydney,’’ he said.
