The Wollondilly community is a step closer to having a new purpose-built ambulance station at Bargo following the purchase of a site at 150 Great Southern Road.

The new Bargo Ambulance Station is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $615.5 million ambulance infrastructure program.

Health Infrastructure and NSW Ambulance carried out a thorough evaluation of the site to ensure the location best meets the needs of emergency ambulance operations and paramedic staff.

New ambulance stations are located at places which optimise ambulance response performance times and meet the needs of local community.

NSW Ambulance identified Bargo as a high priority location following a comprehensive service planning process using best practice modelling software to map Triple Zero calls.

The next steps for the project include design development and seeking planning approval for the new ambulance station.

Construction and operational timeframes will be determined as the project progresses.

“Our paramedics will have a purpose-built ambulance station to help them deliver care when and where it’s needed,’’ says Member for Wollondilly, Judy Hannan.

“I thank the NSW Government for delivering on services to match the needs that our growing community has.

“The new ambulance station will bolster emergency care for the Wollondilly community and support existing ambulance stations including at Bowral and Picton.”

Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould has also welcomed the announcement of an ambulance station at Bargo.

“Council has been advocating for more ambulance stations and improved services within the Shire for some time, and I am very pleased to see that we are a step closer to having a new ambulance station at Bargo,” he said.

“Our frontline paramedics do an absolutely amazing job with the resources they have, but they have been spread too thin.

“Our residents often face significantly long waits for ambulances to arrive, and additional pressure has been placed on the existing stations at Picton and Warragamba with more people moving in to the Wilton state-led growth area,’’ he said.

“A new ambulance station at Bargo will help address this need.

“I’d like to thank our local member, Judy Hannan, for advocating for the residents of our Shire, and I look forward to working with the government on the delivery of the ambulance station.”
