A man who allegedly led police on a number of pursuits between Campbelltown and Goulburn with a seven month old baby in the front seat has now been charged.

The 35 year old was granted conditional bail to appear in court today.

His has been charged with several offences, including failing to stop when directed to do so by police during a pursuit, speeding, with a passenger not properly restrained, obtain property by deception, and assault (Domestic Violence) relating to an alleged incident earlier that night.

About 9.30pm on August 7, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were travelling south on the Hume Highway near Blair Athol, when they detected a sedan allegedly travelling at 168km/hr in a 110km/hr sign posted zone.

Police activated their warning lights and when the driver allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

A short time later police located the car at a service station at Sally’s Corner.

Police activated their warning lights; however, when the alleged driver failed to stop again a pursuit was initiated on the Hume Motorway, near Goulburn.

The pursuit continued until the sedan stopped at a service station on Hume Street, Goulburn.

When police approached the car, the driver allegedly locked himself inside the vehicle and refused to open the door to police causing officers to smash the driver’s side window and arrest him.

Officers also found an allegedly unrestrained 7-month-old baby – known to the man – seated in the front passenger seat.

NSW ambulance attended and assessed the baby who appeared to be uninjured before he was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for monitoring. The child is now in his family’s care.

The driver was subjected to roadside breath test which returned a negative result; however, a roadside drug test allegedly returned a positive result.

He was taken to Goulburn Police Station where he allegedly tested positive to methylamphetamine, which was sent away for secondary testing.

The man was then taken to Goulburn Hospital for further monitoring and was later charged at the local police station.
