Two goals inside the first seven minutes is all it took for the Macarthur Rams to suffer their first defeat since new coach Darren Jones took the reins at Lynwood Park.
You know when a coach tells you in youth football that you have to be on from the get-go. Well, this round 14 League One men’s fixture proved that true with the only two goals coming early.
While the home side did manage to play their way into the game for the next 83 minutes, they paid the ultimate price for conceding early.
The first goal came from a header and the second three minutes later from point blank range.
From there, 0-2 down and a mountain to climb, Macarthur found their feet able to create a few chances before the break, including a Christian Torrelli one-on-one.
The break halted the Rams’ momentum a bit as they had limited opportunities in the second period.
To be fair, Spartans did well to see out the game.
This Saturday night in round 15, the Rams will seek some redemption when they travel to Jensen Park to face Canterbury Bankstown, who also lost their round 14 match.
Still confident of making an impact this season, Macarthur Rams will be hoping to use last week’s defeat as a learning experience going forward.
As things tend to go in football, the second game under coach Darren Jones didn’t go as well as the first as they went down to Blacktown Spartans.
With the two goals they conceded in that one coming early, you can be sure that their focus this weekend will be on starting well as well as being clinical in front of goal.
With 15 games remaining in the season, a win here would see them comfortably clear of the bottom two and heading upwards on the ladder.
