A multi-agency search for missing Oakdale bushwalker Lily Hooper is continuing today in the Nattai National Park, a week after she went missing.

The search party of 200 emergency services personnel includes almost 100 members of the Australian Defence Force.

It comes 24 hours after the Hooper family issued a media statement.

“Our family is absolutely devastated that our beloved daughter Lily is missing,’’ the family said.

“We would like to thank all the emergency services and volunteers for their support and continued commitment to the search, not only during the day but throughout the night.

“We desperately want to bring Lily home safe and we ask as the search continues, to keep our family and Lily in your thoughts.

“We appreciate people who have made offers for the search but due to the terrain and conditions we ask just professional search teams continue.

“We also ask for privacy and understanding as our family navigates this unimaginable situation,’’ the Hooper family said.

Lily Hooper, 18, was last seen leaving a home on Burragorang Road, Oakdale, about 8am last Wednesday (August 12), with the intention of going for a hike.

When she hadn’t returned home by 10pm, Lily was reported missing and inquiries to locate her began immediately by officers attached to The Hume Police District.

About 11pm the same day, Lily’s car was found parked on Wanganderry Road, near the start of the Bonnum Pic Walking Trail at High Range, in the Nattai National Park, about 60km north-west of Mittagong.

The multi-agency search has been ongoing with support from multiple NSW Police Force units including PolAir, Rescue Unit, Trail Bike Unit, Mounted Unit and the Dog Unit.

Other agencies involved in the search include NSW SES, Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, National Parks and Wildlife Service, NSW Ambulance, Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter and other aviation assets.

Lily is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall, of slim build, and long blonde hair and blue eyes. When last seen she was wearing a shirt and shorts but it’s not known what clothing or supplies she took for the hike. Police have been told she is an experienced hiker.

Anyone who may have seen Lily or has information about her whereabouts, or who walked the Bonnum Pic Walking Trail on Wednesday, August 12 is urged to contact Moss Vale Police Station 02 4869 7899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
