The Macarthur region’s two biggest towns, Campbelltown and Camden, are preparing big celebrations for the 2023 Australia Day.

Last year the day was affected by the pandemic, so this year’s face to face affair means a heaving program across the two towns.

Campbelltown residents are invited to an afternoon of delicious food, carnival rides, community displays and Australiana themed kids’ activities from 4pm to 9pm in Koshigaya Park on Thursday, January 26.

The Wonderdogs, a talented team of border collies led by trainer Kelly Gill, will entertain the crowd with their amazing tricks at 5.30pm and 6.30pm, while local musicians will play throughout the evening from the main stage.

The achievements of Campbelltown residents will be celebrated at a civic ceremony at the Greg Percival Community Centre in Ingleburn at 9am, where the citizen of the year and other Australia Day awards will be announced.

Several new Australians will receive their citizenship at a ceremony afterwards.

“Campbelltown’s Australia Day celebrations are always popular among friends and family so I look forward to seeing everyone out and about on the day,” says Mayor George Greiss.

“It’s also an important day to recognise the extraordinary contributions of people in our community who help to make Campbelltown the fantastic place that it is when we announce the Australia Day award winners,” Cr Greiss said.

Camden residents are encouraged to head down to Argyle Street from 9am on January 26 to see some incredible roving entertainment until 10am, and then enjoy the much-loved Macarthur Lions Australia Day street parade until 11am.

Also taking place on the day will be Camden’s first citizenship ceremony for 2023, which will welcome more than 60 residents as they take their pledge to be true-blue Aussies.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said she couldn’t wait to enjoy the festivities to come.

“While it was a shame we couldn’t be together to celebrate Australia Day in person last year, it just makes the times we can be together even more special – which is what this year will feel like for me,” she said.

“I hope everyone will enjoy celebrating what makes our great country so fantastic and it gives everyone a special and exciting sense of all the good things to come in the year ahead.’’
