Nine local and national artists are set to bring stories of place, culture and community to life in major projects under construction across Campbelltown.
The public artworks are currently being developed by established and emerging artists, and they will reflect Campbelltown’s identity, history and future in a unique way.
They will be a special part of these city building upgrades that are funded by the Western Sydney infrastructure grant program.
Leumeah Youth Precinct, Simmos Beach Parklands, Dharawal Nature Playspace, Hurley Park Early Stories, Multipurpose Community Centre Hub, Ingleburn Town Centre, Campbelltown City Centre, Glenfield Town Centre, and the Campbelltown Health and Education Precinct (CHEP) are the nine projects that will receive the public artworks.
The chosen artists are Anney Bounpraseuth, Tom Duffy, Jezzy Fezzy and Jessica Pound, Aunty Michelle Hailes, Ali Kadhim and Sid Tapia, Catherine O’Donnell, Feras Shaheen and Jo Tanginoa.
“It’s incredible to see the calibre of talent each of these artists bring to the projects they are working on,’’ says Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Darcy Lound.
“They will help transform these spaces into meaningful public places that reflect the character and spirit of our community.
“These public artworks will add lasting value to important projects across the city, enhancing spaces for residents and visitors now and into the future.
“This program is about delivering more than infrastructure, it’s about creating destinations with identity and appeal,” Mayor Lound said.
Local MP Greg Warren said the Campbelltown community was special and deserved to receive his special artistic attention.
“I look forward to seeing these fantastic artists bring our community’s spirit to their projects which will encourage residents and visitors alike to spend some time in these great local destinations,” he said
His parliamentary colleague, Member for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong, said the public art works would significantly enhance infrastructure projects currently under way in our community.
“I thank the artists for sharing their talents to help revitalise these important and highly valued community spaces for all to enjoy,” he said.
