An attempted break in at an Edensor Park home sparked to a police pursuit trough outer South West Sydney in the early hours of this morning.
The pursuit ended in Campbelltown, where one of the two suspects was arrested, while a police operation is still under way trying to find the second person.
Police say the incident started at 1.30am today (Tuesday, December 31, when officers responded to reports of two men attempting to gain entry to a home on Calaria Close, Edensor Park.
On arrival, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were told the men, believed to be armed with a firearm, left the scene in a Hyundai sedan.
Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A short time later, police observed the vehicle travelling on Cowpasture Road, Hinchinbrook.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
About 1.50am, the vehicle crashed on St Andrews Road, Varroville, following the successful deployment of road spikes.
The driver of the vehicle – a 20-year-old man – was arrested at the scene and was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where inquiries are ongoing.
The passenger fled the scene on foot.
A perimeter was established at St Andrews Road, Varroville, by officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command with the assistance of PolAir and other specialist police resources.
Localised traffic diversions are in place and the community is advised to avoid the area.
