Appin and Tahmoor will share $4 million in road upgrades to improve safety for motorists.

The lion’s share of the money of more than $3.5 million, will go towards a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Appin Road and Brian Road, including a reduction in the speed limit by 20km/h.

A long overdue upgrade to Remembrance Driveway at Tahmoor, as well as the construction of pedestrian facilities, will cost $540,000.

The money is being made available under the Safer Roads program, a joint NSW and Commonwealth Governments initiative.

MPs Nat Smith, left, and Angus Taylor.

The two local members of parliament welcomed the funding.

Federal member for Hume Angus Taylor said both governments were working closely to ensure vital infrastructure funding like this continued to flow around this region.

“I am pleased to see Appin Road and Remembrance Driveway will receive funding under the Safer Roads Program,” Mr Taylor said.

State Member for Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith said the funding was welcome news for local residents at the tail end of a tumultuous year.

“I know that safer roads and better access are important issues for the communities across Wollondilly and will help them bounce back from the challenges of the last year,” Mr Smith said.

“We have listened, and we have acted – residents can rest assured I will keep fighting day-in and day-out for the infrastructure our community needs to thrive.

“Absolutely nothing is more important than ensuring each and every commuter on our local roads gets home to their loved ones safe and sound at the end of each trip, which is why every single dollar we spend on vital safety-improving upgrades is a dollar well spent.”
