Appin Road fatal crash: ute driver in court

Appin Road in the heart of the Appin township.

The 22 year old driver of the ute involved in a fatal two vehicle crash at Appin last Thursday night has been charged with 14 offences.

The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division – Court 6 on Saturday after being charged at Campbelltown police station.

The offences include speeding, negligent driving and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol:

  • aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speed more than 45km/h,
  • aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – speed more than 45km/h (two counts),
  • dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous,
  • dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous,
  • dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive speed dangerous (two counts),
  • dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous (two counts),
  • negligent driving occasioning death,
  • negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm,
  • cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle,
  • drive vehicle under influence of alcohol, and
  • drive motor vehicle – menaces another with intent.

Emergency services responded to reports of the crash on Appin Road, Appin around 8pm last Thursday between a Toyota Hilux utility and a Mazda sedan.

There were four occupants in the Mazda sedan, including a 17-year-old girl who died at the scene.

 A 46-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were taken to Liverpool Hospital both in a critical condition.

A 12-year-old boy received minor injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital.

The driver of the Hilux suffered minor injuries and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital under police guard for mandatory testing.

The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, which led to the charged laid against the 22 year old driver.
