More and more Macarthur families are feeling the pinch this winter from rising living costs, including higher interest rates, increased weekly rental payments and growing grocery bills.

Big Yellow Umbrella, a local charity providing services to the community since 1987, says it has noted a broader range of people seeking support in recent months.

“The cost of living has meant local families cannot afford things fresh fruit and vegetables,’’ says Kim Landouw from Big Yellow Umbrella.

“We are inundated with requests for support.’’

The good news is that help is on the way via the annual Yellow Hampers food relief program.

Wests Group Macarthur have joined forces with Big Yellow Umbrella to help fill the plates of those in need.

“We are pleased to partner to support the Yellow Hampers appeal,” says Daniel Perkiss, CEO of Wests Group Macarthur.

“At Wests, we strongly believe in empowering our incredible community partners to deliver what is needed, when people need it.

“Big Yellow Umbrella does an exceptional job of supporting both individuals and families within the local community,’’ he said.

The take-home Yellow Hampers are put together from donations of non-perishable pantry items (6-month shelf life).

Donation boxes are located in the reception areas of Wests League Club, Country Club Gledswood Hills, Lakeside Golf Club and the Big Yellow Umbrella head office in Narellan.

Members of Wests Group Macarthur and the community are being encouraged to donate non-perishable pantry items.

Donations can be made up until Sunday, June 30.
