Before the May 3 election so called political experts earmarked Anne Stanley’s seat of Weriwa as one in South Western Sydney that was most vulnerable to a general swing away from the Labor Government led by Anthony Albanese.
One of the reasons they gave was a predicted drop in support from voters of Muslim background.
As everyone now knows, the experts were wrong and the Labor Government, along with Anne Stanley in Werriwa, won three more years in Canberra.
Now Ms Stanley has welcomed today’s official announcement of the May 3 federal election results for the Werriwa electorate.
The declaration of the polls, which took place in Ingleburn, showed a 1.5 percent two party preferred swing to Ms Stanley from the result of the 2022 election.
Anne Stanley was first elected to the seat of Werriwa in 2016 and was subsequently re-elected in 2019 and 2022.
Now she has defied predictions of her political demise and won a fourth term.
“I am very humbled and proud to be re-elected to represent the Werriwa electorate,’’ MS Stanley said after the declaration of the polls.
“Having lived all my life in Werriwa, there is no greater honour than to represent our community in parliament.
“The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC)uphold the highest levels of integrity.
“I am grateful for the efforts of the AEC staff in ensuring that this election was conducted fairly and efficiently.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me and volunteered their time during the campaign.
“Your contribution was very important in securing the seat of Werriwa.
“But more importantly, thank you to those who voted for me.
“The trust constituents have placed in me is something not lost on me, and I look forward to delivering on the promises and commitments I made.”
