Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has announced that a Coalition Government will invest $5.8 million towards the Leppington Oval precinct upgrade.
The work will incorporate the existing Leppington Oval – also known as Pat Konista Reserve.
Once completed the project will include three full soccer fields, three tennis courts, fitness stations, shared paths, and a variety of play and place spaces.
Mr Taylor, who is pictured above at Leppington Oval, said the Albanese Government had failed to invest in local infrastructure.
“I want to make the Leppington community an even better place to live, work and raise a family,’’ he said.
“We know that sport and physical activity is great for people’s mental health and also promotes teamwork and social inclusion,” Mr Taylor said.
Several schools and sporting groups will benefit from the project including Leppington Public School, Leppington Anglican, and Leppington Lions Soccer Club.
The project will also provide more recreational space for residents in Leppington and Catherine Field.
The Leppington Oval precinct masterplan was prepared by Camden Council in late 2022.
Mr Taylor also revealed an $85,000 election commitment for improvements at the Wollondily Leisure Centre.
He said $60,000 of this will be spent on replacing floors used for gymnastics, netball, futsal, volleyball, indoor soccer, and basketball.
This would increase safety and performance for the user groups while also ensuring compliance with national event standards.
“Everyone deserves to play sport in a safe environment,” Mr Taylor said.
“I’m also a big believer in having great places where sporting groups can come together, socialise, and be active in our local communities.’’
The remaining $25,000 will go towards purchasing new scoreboards for Wollondilly Razorbacks Basketball that will display real time information and improve the overall experience for both fans and players.
“The Razorbacks have been nurturing local basketball talent in the Wollondilly for many years and I’m only too happy to throw my support behind wonderful sporting organisations like this one,’’ Mr Taylor said.
