On Saturday, Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) opened its doors for the fourth annual community open day.

This year, about 1600 community members were welcomed to the WSI experience centre where they were greeted by WSI staff and more than a dozen stallholders comprised of businesses involved in the airport’s construction and transport connections as well as those that will support the airport’s operations when it opens in late 2026.

The 2024 event saw the largest number of community members WSI has ever welcomed to the airport since the community open day was launched in 2021.

That means about 4,000 people in total will now have attended this annual WSI event.

In addition, more than 70,000 people have visited the experience centre, which is open each week.

Throughout the day, WSI also offered community members bus tours of the 3.7km runway to give people a closer look at some of the airport’s critical infrastructure.

A WSI guide accompanied each tour to give visitors key facts and statistics about this multi-billion-dollar, transformational project.

“It’s been incredibly exciting to welcome the local community back for our fourth annual community open day,’’ said WSI general manager, community engagement and social impact, Katy Hannouch.

“This is all about giving our diverse, vibrant community a rare, behind-the-scenes look at their airport that’s progressing rapidly, with about 80 per cent of construction now complete.

“It’s also been terrific to work with many of our government and business partners across the airport precinct this year, all of which had staff and activities on hand, so the community could learn about the airport, how it will operate and most importantly, what it will offer for them.

“Thank you to everyone who popped in for a visit – we cannot wait to welcome you back when the airport opens in late 2026.”
