If you’re a senior citizen in Macarthur and you love attending the annual premier’s gala concerts, here’s a date you should mark on your diary: Tuesday, March 23.
That’s when the free tickets become available to this year’s concerts, which have the theme Puttin’ on the Ritz.
Local seniors should note that there has been a change of venue, with this year’s concerts to be held at Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park.
However, direct train services to Sydney Olympic Park will be operating when the concerts are on, which is:
Concert 1: Tuesday 5 April at 11am
Concert 2: Tuesday 5 April at 2.15pm
Concert 3: Wednesday 6 April at 11am
Concert 4: Wednesday 6 April at 2.15pm.
Every year the seniors concerts are a showcase of Australia’s best and upcoming musical theatre and recording artists.
They are the highlight of the annual NSW Seniors Festival.
This year the festival, which has as a theme Grow Young, will be celebrated throughout NSW during April 1 to 10.
“It is a reminder that no matter what your age, it’s never too late to learn, try new things and be inspired,” says Holsworthy MP Melanie Gibbons.
Now in its 59th year, NSW Seniors Festival (formerly NSW Seniors Week) is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere, with over 300,000 people taking part in more than 1,000 free and discounted events.
Other than the seniors concerts, the key events for this year’s festival include the Young at Heart Film Festival, the NSW Seniors Festival Expo and the 2016 Comedy Debate.
The NSW Government has also sponsored more than 200 organisations to host local events right across NSW.
Minister for Ageing John Ajaka said the NSW Seniors Festival will be brought to life by the 2016 NSW Seniors Festival ambassadors, who will share their stories and experiences.
“Each of the ambassadors has a unique story to tell and their individual experiences will help create positive perceptions, while encouraging seniors to engage with their community and live life to the fullest,” Mr Ajaka said.
The 2016 NSW Seniors Festival ambassadors include the 2016 Senior Australian of the Year Professor Gordian Fulde, former Australian Disability Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes, Dr Rosemary Stanton, Robina Beard and Warren Kermond.
The ambassadors’ inspiring stories will feature in the free 2016 NSW Seniors Festival magazine, which is now available at Woolworths service counters, selected Westfield concierge desks, Flight Centres, Telstra stores Service NSW centres, local councils and libraries across NSW.
