When we get heavy rainfall, flooding means business in some part of Campbelltown.
That is why Campbelltown City Council recently completed a flood study of the Bow Bowing Bunbury Curran Creek system as part of a plan to gain a better understanding of the potential impacts of flooding across the Local Government Area, and to formalise a strategy to manage flood risks.
Residents and land owners will have an opportunity to find out about the results of the study, and the impact of flooding within the city, by attending public information sessions to be held during February and March.
In order to be relevant to residents living in the north, south and central areas of the city, three information sessions have been organised. Details are listed below.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said the flood study was the first stage in the development of a plan to better manage flood risks across the city.
“Flooding can occur quickly after a storm and can pose a risk to people and property,’’ he said.
“Some parts of Campbelltown City are prone to flooding, and it’s important for residents and land owners to be aware of this.
“The next stage of the process will be the preparation of a Floodplain Risk Management Study and then a Risk Management Plan.
“The Risk Management Plan will include recommendations and will be placed on public exhibition for community feedback,” Cr Hawker said.

• Northern region – Monday 14 March from 5pm to 8pm at Greg Percival Community Centre, Oxford Road, Ingleburn.
