Two men have been arrested following an attempted ram raid at the Mount Annan shopping centre early this morning.
Just after 3am police were called the centre on Main Street after reports a tip truck smashed through a wall.
Officers from Camden Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
A tip truck was recovered at the crime scene, after it caught fire and was extinguished. The tip truck will undergo forensic examinations.
Initial investigations suggest ATMs at the centre were unsuccessfully targeted.
A short time later, officers from Camden Traffic and Highway Patrol attempted to stop two vans travelling on The Hume Highway at Moorebank, when the drivers allegedly failed to stop and two pursuits were commenced.
One van was pursued into Wellwood Avenue, Moorebank, before the driver fled on foot.
A short time later a second van was located on Moorebank Avenue, Moorebank.
Two men were arrested nearby. One man was taken to Narellan Police Station, the other was taken to Macquarie Fields Police Station.
Both men are currently assisting with inquiries.
Investigations are continuing, with officers from the State Crime Commands Property Crime Squad providing assistance.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
• In a separate incident, police are investigating after boy was bitten by the family dog at Heckenberg late on New Year’s Day.
About 8.50pm emergency services were called to a home on St Johns Road, after reports a child had been bitten by a dog.
On arrival officers from Green Valley Local Area Command found a 5-year-old boy who had been bitten on the cheek by a dog.
He was taken by Ambulance Paramedics to Liverpool Hospital for assessment and treatment for a minor injury.
Initial investigations suggest the family dog – an Alaskan Malamute – and boy were in the backyard of the home, when the dog bit the child once on the cheek.
