Hundreds more state government jobs will be relocated to Liverpool in just over 12 months.
The 256 Family and Community Services (FACS) jobs will be based in the Scott Street centre from 2017.
It is all part of the Baird Government’s Decade of Decentralisation strategy, says the Liberal Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons.
Already 160 FACS staff have relocated to Liverpool from across Sydney.
“This is fantastic news for local Liverpool businesses who will thrive under this booming jobs growth,” Ms Gibbons said.
“While 160 staff moved to Liverpool in 2014 under our decentralisation policy, since the [March 2015] election I have been fighting for more government jobs in Liverpool.
“We are now delivering on that with 256 new FACS staff from both Housing and Child Protection moving in.
“On top of this, 100 FACS staff currently located in other Liverpool offices will also move to the new office, so everything is located under one roof,” Ms Gibbons said.
Ms Gibbons was joined yesterday by the Minister for Family and Community Services and Social Housing Brad Hazzard as they announced the jobs relocation during a visit to the proposed site in Scott Street.
“For the past five years Melanie Gibbons has been a strong advocate for Liverpool,” Mr Hazzard said.
“She’s been working tirelessly behind the scenes on ways to bolster Liverpool, whether it’s by bringing in new jobs, improving local roads or gaining funding for community groups under the Community Building Partnerships program.
“The moving of FACS staff to Liverpool following her strong representations is because the NSW Government recognises Liverpool’s place in Sydney’s future growth.
“With over 500 FACS jobs coming online in Liverpool, it’s clear that Melanie Gibbons is fulfilling her promise to deliver for her local community,” Mr Hazzard said.
Thats a very good start of course Eric, bit sad to hear of the relocations from other parts of Liverpool. Also hearing Parramatta is getting ANOTHER 1800 is annoying. We need to make a bit more noise about what we need here but congratulations just the same. We need to keep the heat on Baird and our representatives in all levels of government to push for more jobs here. We are getting the housing coming finally so it will make sense to get some big employers as well now.
