Tartan warriors: This Scottish themed entry was named the winner in this year’s Fisher’s Ghost Festival parade.

A group of local residents passionate about all things Scottish have taken out top honours at this year’s Festival of Fisher’s Ghost Street Parade, och aye!

Calling themselves Celebrate all things Scottish – spooky and all! received $800 for winning first overall prize for their parade entry, as well as the $200 prize for Best Cultural Group.

Renowned for their Scottish themed parade entries, the group’s tartan clad marchers walked alongside colourful floats featuring Nessie, The Loch Ness monster and a giant cake decorated with plaid, in reference to the parade’s “join the party’’ theme.

Competition for second overall prize was too close to call, with judges eventually deciding to declare a tie between Campbelltown Steam and Machinery Museum and Campbelltown Public School, who will each receive $600 for their efforts.

The Australian Air League won the Best Youth Band category, while Falun Dafa Association of Australia was awarded the prize for the Best Themed Youth Band. Campbelltown Public School won the prize for the Best School entry.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said council was proud to have hosted another successful Street Parade, and congratulated the parade participants on their enthusiasm and creativity.

“It showcases the diversity of our local community and is a celebration of our city’s history and its people.

“This year’s event was certainly a fitting tribute to the 60th annual Festival of Fisher’s Ghost.

“Congratulations to all of the entrants and thank you to sponsors Channel 9 News, C91.3FM and the Macarthur Chronicle for continuing to support Campbelltown’s Festival of Fisher’s Ghost,” Cr Hawker said.
