Liverpool is one of two councils which will have a major say in the planning of the Western Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek.
And council it says it will work hard to have a railway line included as part of the construction of the airport.
The NSW Department of Planning last week confirmed that it has identified the Western Sydney Priority Growth Area around the airport.
The department also announced that it has invited Penrith Council and Liverpool Council to have a major stake in the planning for Sydney’s second international airport.
“This gives us the opportunity to influence the future of western Sydney on the most significant planning project of this generation,’’ responded the mayor of Liverpool, Ned Mannoun.
“It is important to get land use and infrastructure planning right so the region can achieve its full potential.

“We will also be planning for new communities around the airport and it’s important to plan for community services and social infrastructure associated with these,’’ he said.
Mayor Mannoun said Liverpool’s planning for the future would be aligned to those for the airport.
“We want to create liveable, sustainable communities with a high standard of amenity and connectivity across this region.
“It is also important to plan for the training and skills needed to provide local people with good quality jobs.
“The invitation to join the steering committee is recognition of the vital role that Liverpool Council will play in the future success of the airport,’’ he said.
“We also welcome the opportunity to work closely with Penrith Council which will also play an important role.
“Liverpool is working hard to ensure that the airport delivers for the people of Western Sydney.

“Our Building Our New City project is focussing on key city centre sites such as the city’s central mall and park, revitalising these areas to make them more attractive and generate a city where people can work, live and play.
“This major investment in our city recognises the growth in our future population along with the opportunity that the airport will bring.
“As the capital of the Great South West, Liverpool will be prepared for the opportunities and challenges that the airport will bring.”
