The Spring Farm Parkway has long been promoted as the road that would be critical new connection between Camden and Campbelltown.
But for decades it has been the road to nowhere.
Two years ago, In August 2024, a very small section of the road was built as part of stage one, which included a new bridge over the Hume Highway.
Still missing was the rest of the Parkway, from the new bridge to Spring Farm and other southern parts of Camden, including the Camden Bypass
Now, the state and federal government have unveiled designs for stage two, and calling for pubic input.
The media release does not mention when the full stage two would be funded.
“Delivery funding would be considered through future Budget processes following the completion of planning and design work,’’ is all the two governments say in the media release issued this morning.
“The Minns and Albanese Labor Governments are today unveiling the proposed design for Spring Farm Parkway Stage 2, a three-kilometre, four-lane road that would complete the east-west link between Menangle Park and Spring Farm,’’ they say.
“The community are now able to have their say on the proposed design and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the project, which is in response to longstanding calls from the local community for a direct connection between the Camden area and the Hume Motorway.
“Currently, Spring Farm Parkway has no direct road connection through to the suburb of Spring Farm.
“This has meant motorists are forced to travel via Narellan Road, adding unnecessary time and distance to their journeys and putting additional pressure on this key road corridor as Camden continues to grow.’’
The two Labor Governments are pointing the fingers at the former Liberal Governments for splitting the project into two stages and only funding the first.
“The Albanese and Minns Labor Governments have committed $15 million to progress the planning for Stage 2,’’ the said in the media release.
The public can now view the proposed plan and provide feedback to inform the final design by September 27.
