Angus Taylor is a local MP, his federal electorate of Hume taking in big chunks of Macarthur country.
He is also the Leader of the Opposition, and perhaps in a different time he would be seen as natural fit to become Prime Minister.
Unfortunately, we don’t live in normal times.
So when the South West Voice had an opportunity to question Mr Taylor on Tuesday, we asked him if he agreed angry voters would support him and the Liberal Party at the next election if he fired up and promise to take a wrecking ball to the Albanese Government’s approach.
“Well Eric can I say with all due respect I talked about exactly those things a moment ago,’’ Mr Taylor responded.
“We will axe Labor’s toxic taxes. We will scrap net zero. We will get more houses built in this country for young Australians. We will ensure that Australians come first.
“We will respect our veterans unlike this Prime Minister.
“That’s what we stand for Eric.
“I’m out there every day talking about it and I know that’s what Australians want to see right now.
“We’re going to keep fighting for it. Every day all the way through to the next all the way through to the next election.’’
The Voice then followed up with: So, no wrecking ball?
“Well, this is the best country on earth, but we’ve just got a rotten government,’’ Mr Taylor said.
“We don’t need to wreck the country, we need to fix the country. That’s what’s needed,’’ he said.
“That’s what’s needed right now. And I know we can fix the country.
“My job before politics – I had a long career before politics unlike my political competitors – was about fixing things that weren’t going in the right direction.
“Well, that’s where the Australian economy is right now.
“It can be fixed because we are the greatest country on earth, but it won’t be fixed by this government that spends too much, that taxes too much and frankly is leading us down the garden path.’’
