The Campbelltown Harlequins delivered a statement on Saturday, overwhelming the Camden Rams in a one‑sided local derby. Their performance at Campbelltown Showground showcased the home side’s growing authority at the top of the competition ladder, reports ANDREW CHOICE.
From the opening whistle, Harlequins played like a side intent on tightening their grip on first place in the Illawarra competition ladder.
Their intent was brutal, their execution clinical.
In a blistering first 20 minutes, the Quins piled on 38 unanswered points after dominating in every part of the game.
Camden simply had no answer to Campbelltown’s onslaught.
Harlequins’ defensive line was suffocating, their ball‑carriers relentless, and their support play top draw.
By the time the Rams finally touched the ball for more than a phase, the match was effectively over.
However, to their credit, Camden refused to fold. A string of penalties finally gave them field position, and they showed glimpses of the form that saw them fall by just one point to Shoalhaven a week earlier.
Two well‑constructed tries brought some respectability to the scoreboard, sending the sides into the break with Harlequins leading 48–14.
With the match safely in hand, Harlequins’ coaching staff used the second half to blood several promising young players.
And while the rhythm became patchy, the scoreboard kept ticking over.
The Quins crossed for four more tries, eventually closing out a comprehensive 68–19 victory – Camden’s final try arriving in the dying minutes.
In Second Grade, Harlequins produced a resounding 40‑point win over Camden, keeping their finals hopes very much alive.
The match carried special significance as club stalwart Luke Norton ran out for his 400th game, a pretty good milestone by anyone’s reckoning.
But Norton’s mark was also a testament to loyalty, durability, and service.
The club celebrated the achievement warmly, acknowledging Norton as a true pillar of Harlequins rugby.
The Harlequins women continued their strong season, securing five competition points against Parramatta.
The result keeps them locked in a tight three‑way battle with Randwick and West Harbour for top spot and a home semi‑final.
The Quins Ladies face both rivals in consecutive rounds, beginning this Saturday at home against West Harbour, kicking off at 12 noon.
