If you visit Camden or Oran Park in the next little while, look out for the street flag exhibition now on display.
The “exhibition’’, which will be on display until August 31, showcases the creativity and talent of artists from across the Macarthur region, transforming everyday streets into vibrant outdoor galleries.
There were more than 120 expressions of interest submitted from the artistic sector across the region.
There were so many entries of exceptional quality, Camden Council expanded the exhibition beyond its original scope, with a total of 124 artworks ending up on display.
That’s 42 street flags in Camden Town Centre, 20 street flags in Oran Park Town Centre, 41 kerbside locations at the intersections of John Street and Argyle Street in Camden, 13 bus shelters in Camden and eight in Oran Park.
Originally planned as only a street flag exhibition in Camden and Oran Park town centres, the initiative was expanded after the outstanding response from local artists, allowing even more creative works to be showcased throughout the community.
Lydia Kullik, TAFE NSW head teacher of graphic design, screen and media, visual arts, photography and digital imaging, and cultural art, said she was honoured that 32 students had works selected for the public art exhibition.
“This achievement reflects the outstanding quality of work produced by our students and highlights the high standard of teaching and learning we deliver at TAFE NSW Campbelltown,’’ she said.
‘It’s terrific to collaborate with Camden Council on this fantastic opportunity.”
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the exhibition demonstrated council’s commitment to supporting local artists while creating engaging public spaces.
“The Street Flag exhibition brings art out of traditional gallery spaces and into the heart of our community, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy,” she said.
