Myrtle Cottage has expanded its dementia services, opening a new centre in Spring Farm this week.
Member for Camden Sally Quinnell performed the official opening duties at Eucalyptus Cottage (pictured above).
During her speech, Ms Quinnell old guests at the official opening about her own family’s experience with dementia.
“I know the difference a centre like this can make in the lives of people with dementia and their carers,’’ she said.
“Eucalyptus Cottage has been thoughtfully designed to feel warm, familiar and welcoming.
“Individual rooms focus on social interaction, music participation, art, and sensory experiences.”
Eucalyptus Cottage is a dedicated community service focused on enriching the lives of people living with dementia and seniors through compassionate support, meaningful activities, and a nurturing home-like environment.
Structured daily programs enable cognitive and emotional wellbeing in a safe, engaging and dignified environment, while offering much needed respite for family and carers.
“We’re bringing our services closer to support more residents within the Camden and Wollondilly areas.” said Myrtle Cottage CEO Kylie Richardson.
“In particular, for people living with dementia, services in the Macarthur region are thin on the ground. We are changing that.
Board chair Bill Salter said a new centre has been a long term vision for Myrtle Cottage, a not for profit provider of community services for 49 years from its Ingleburn premises.
“Rapid population growth for ageing and disabled people in the Macarthur region means more services are needed.
“Families often carry enormous responsibility, and we want them to know they are not alone,” Mr Salter said.
With dementia affecting a growing number of Australian families, community-based support services such as Eucalyptus Cottage play a critical role in reducing isolation and improving wellbeing for both participants and carers.
Myrtle Cottage Group enables older people, people with dementia and disabilities to live richer and more independent lives.
Families, healthcare professionals, and community members are invited to learn more about the services available and arrange a visit to the centre.
