
A man has been charged over multiple alleged carjackings and a pursuit across most of Campbelltown.
About 9.40am on Tuesday, (May20) officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol were patrolling on Port Hacking Road, Miranda, when they located a Toyota sedan being driven dangerously.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated due to safety concerns.
About 9.50am the same day, police were on Heathcote Road, Holsworthy, when they located the same vehicle and a second pursuit was initiated before multiple resources from Liverpool City Police Area Command, Fairfield City Police Area Command, Campbelltown City Police Area Command and PolAir were called.
The pursuit continued into Cambridge Avenue, Glenfield, where the pursuit was terminated.
From then the vehicle was monitored by PolAir as it continued through the suburbs of Ruse and Airds.
The vehicle entered Peppin Crescent, Airds, where the driver allegedly attempted to steal another vehicle – unsuccessfully.
PolAir continued to monitor the vehicle through suburban streets in Airds, Ruse and Campbelltown before the Toyota turned onto Hoddle Avenue, Campbelltown, and collided with a parked vehicle.
The driver allegedly ran from the Toyota and after a foot pursuit, a 35-year-old man, was arrested.
He was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for treatment under police guard.
He was later charged with 22 offences, and they included assault with intent to take a motor vehicle, steal a motor vehicle, five counts of negligent driving and larceny.
Police allege that since 8.30am on Tuesday the accused stole two cars and attempted to steal three further cars in the Cabramatta, Canley Vale and Caringbah areas.
Police further allege when he was driving the sedan on Railway Parade, Canley Vale, at about 8.40am, he crashed with three other vehicles and left the scene on foot without exchanging details.
He was refused bail to appear via a bedside hearing at Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday, May 20).
