A local MP has heaped praise on men’s sheds for the social benefits they bring to the local community.

Speaking at the sod turning ceremony to signal start of work on a permanent new home for Warradale men’s shed, Judy Hannan said such organisations “allow our community to connect’’.

“Men’s sheds across the Wollondilly electorate support men’s health, wellbeing, social connection, and community projects, including intergenerational woodwork programs,’’ the independent MP for Wollondilly said.

“I have been keen to work with each to ensure their good work can continue.’’

The sod turning event for construction of the new men’s shed took place on council owned land in Marsh Road, Warragamba.

The Warradale Men’s Shed project is being financially supported via a $256,372 NSW Government community grant.

Warradale Men’s Shed was one of the first established in the area.

When it first opened, it operated from the old Thirlmere Rural Fire Service shed near the NSW Rail Museum, and since 2019 on the grounds of the Warragamba Workers and Sporting Club.

“The Warradale men’s shed is a long awaited project that has taken many years to coordinate with many stakeholders,’’ Ms Hannan said.

“The permanent shed will provide much needed long-term tenure, and convenient, regular access to the mental health, wellbeing, volunteer disaster resilience and woodworking benefits provided to the community.’’

Wollondilly Mayor Matt  Gould, council CEO Ben  Taylor, and local residents joined men’s shed members for the ceremony (pictured above).
